If you passed your car driving test after 1st January 1997 you need to take an extra test to gain B+E(car plus trailer) entitlement to tow a trailer over 750kg unless the trailer MAM (Maximum Authorised Mass) is less than your cars unladen weight and the combination MAM does not exceed 3500kg.
Most horse trailers will fall into the category where you need to take the extra test.
